The most important thing to me is to provide patients with the help they need. At my practice in Denver, Colorado, I offer a free 50-minute consultation to meet with individuals. The session is a way for an individual to start the healing process. It is an opportunity for individuals to get to know me, ask questions, and determine whether they feel comfortable working with me. It is essential that my clients trust me as their therapist and feel at ease with me in order for treatment to be helpful. This consultation can also provide a chance to discuss arrangements for beginning therapy.
I take an integrative approach to therapy. From psychodynamic, relational, humanistic, existential, cognitive, and behavioral approaches, there are many different techniques that can prove to be the most effective. I also understand that “you are the expert on you.” I believe that people are always in a process of learning and growing. I also believe that people have an innate ability to work toward creative solutions to life’s difficulties. I work to provide a space which is compassionate and open, where my clients do not feel judged, but deeply understood. My clients will be able to experiment with different ways of being and relating. I want to help individuals feel comfortable when providing feedback about what is helping them and what’s not.
It is not easy to open up and share experiences and struggles, especially with a stranger. Developing trust and a sense of comfort and safety will be a process. I respect that my clients will share what they feel is necessary and I will not pressure individuals into providing more detail than what they feeling comfortable providing.
